FHL’s Chairman Jim Quinn, Vice Chairman Peter Rand and Director of Development Vicki Urch attended the 2015 General Synod at the University of York in July. FHL were allocated a display stand for the 4 days and held a Fringe Meeting, chaired by the Rt. Revd Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark.
Peter Rand writes ‘ This is the 4th year that FHL have attended General Synod. We have gained more and more Friends each year as this period has coincided with the Synod quinquennium. After 5 years, elections for new Synod members will be taking place this autumn and around 40% of the Lay and Clergy members are expected to change. So it will be new faces and new opportunities for FHL in 2016!
Each year the General Synod provides a wonderful opportunity to engage with Bishops, Clergy and Lay members about the situation of the Christians in the Holy Land and how they can help our work. The challenge now is to follow up the many contacts we made, and increase awareness, prayer and practical support to help grow FHL’s presence across the Anglican Dioceses here, so we can help more Christians individuals and families in the Holy Land.
This year, we were able to show our 20 minute film – The Suffering Church – and it was very well received, with copies being distributed to everyone to take away and show at parish and diocesan meetings.
If you are not a member of General Synod and would like to join us on the stand for a day or more in future years, please contact the FHL office.’
